The mission of McNeel Middle School, a proud community embracing our rich diversity, is to ensure each Lancer achieves personal excellence in preparation for high school and beyond by engaging students in relevant, innovative programming and high quality student-centered instruction.

Dear Lancer Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year. We hope everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. As the new school year approaches I’d like to take this opportunity to update you on what’s in store for students and families when they return to the HOME of the Lancers this fall.

First, students will enjoy new materials and instruction in both Language Arts and Mathematics this school year. Research shows that one of the key ways to improve student’s abilities in reading and mathematics is to provide them more quality time in those subject areas. With our move to an eight period schedule, each student will have Language Arts and Mathematics twice daily. One class will be the Core class and the other will be an intervention / extension class.

Throughout the course of the last school year, our staff, with the help of parents, students and community members, developed a strategic plan that included a mission statement, objectives and tactics that will guide us over the course of the next several years in our quest to become the best middle school in the state of Wisconsin.

Our goals for the next several years are very simple. We want all students to be at the proficient level or above in reading, mathematics, and writing and the achievement gaps for identified sub groups to be reduced by at least 20% each year. We want all students to understand and consistently demonstrate the District’s character attributes through Honor, Ownership, Mindfulness, and Engagement (HOME) and finally we want each student to be engaged in a rigorous academic program and career exploration activities to ensure a successful transition to high school.

As we look forward to the new year, I want you to know that while we are celebrating our highest Readingand Mathematics WKCE scores ever and the fact that we exceeded the expected growth targets for students on the MAP, we are just getting started. This year is going to see our students and staff achieve even greater heights in terms of academic achievement and Lancer pride.

Please join us at Back to School Night on Thursday September 1st, beginning at 6:00 p.m. for a formal introduction to the 2011 – 2012 school year.

Have a great rest of the summer and as always, Go Lancers!!!
